About these terms
These terms are between you ("you") and CitizenTest.co.nz ("we" or "us"), the independent New Zealand-based study guide at citizentest.co.nz. They apply whenever you use the site, subscribe to email updates, send us a contact-form message, or otherwise interact with us.
What this site is, and what it isn't
Citizen Test is:
- independent study material to help you prepare for the new citizenship test;
- summaries and explanations of public, primary government sources;
- news and updates about the test as it develops;
- a practice quiz (when we launch it).
Citizen Test is not:
- the official citizenship test, or any government-administered exam;
- affiliated with or endorsed by the New Zealand Government, Te Tari Taiwhenua / the Department of Internal Affairs, or any minister or agency;
- legal advice, immigration advice, or any service requiring an immigration adviser licence under the Immigration Advisers Licensing Act 2007;
- a substitute for primary sources. For the authoritative position on the test, fee, eligibility, and dates, follow govt.nz and the Department of Internal Affairs.
Use of the site
You may:
- use the site for personal, non-commercial study;
- share links to our pages;
- quote short passages with clear attribution to citizentest.co.nz.
You may not:
- scrape, mirror, or republish substantial portions of the site for any purpose;
- use the site or its content commercially without our written permission;
- misrepresent the site, or your relationship with it, as official or government-endorsed;
- submit unlawful, threatening, defamatory, or malicious content via the contact form;
- interfere with the site's operation, for example by attempting to circumvent rate limits, security measures, or the unsubscribe flow.
Intellectual property
The original content on this site (text, layout, design, brand) is © CitizenTest.co.nz unless otherwise stated. You may use it for personal study; for any other use, please ask first.
Where we cite or paraphrase New Zealand government material, that material remains subject to its original licence. Most NZ government information is reusable under CC BY 4.0 per the govt.nz copyright statement.
Things you send us
When you send a message through the contact form, you grant us a non-exclusive licence to read, reply to, and store your message in line with our Privacy Policy.
Please don't send confidential information through the contact form. We can't guarantee the confidentiality of email.
If you suggest a correction, share a useful resource, or send us general feedback, you agree we can use the substance of that suggestion to improve the site without owing you payment or attribution.
Email subscriptions
Subscriptions are opt-in. We send only what you signed up for. You can unsubscribe at any time using the link in any email we send you, and we'll honour the unsubscribe within five working days, as required by the Unsolicited Electronic Messages Act 2007.
Links to external sites
We link to government and other external sites for reference. We don't control them and aren't responsible for their content, accuracy, or availability.
Disclaimers
We try to keep this site accurate and up to date, but we don't warrant that the information is complete, current, or error-free. Test details (including format, fee, eligibility, and start date) may change as the Government announces them, so always check primary sources before acting on anything you read here.
Nothing on this site is legal or immigration advice. For advice about your specific situation, contact a licensed immigration adviser or the Department of Internal Affairs.
Nothing in these terms limits or excludes any rights you may have under the Consumer Guarantees Act 1993 or the Fair Trading Act 1986 where those Acts apply and cannot be contracted out of.
Limitation of liability
To the maximum extent permitted by law, we are not liable for any indirect or consequential losses arising from your use of the site, or for losses caused by third-party content we link to. Where the law allows us to limit our liability and doesn't require an unlimited remedy, our total liability to you for any claim arising from your use of the site is limited to NZ$100.
This clause does not exclude or limit any liability that cannot be excluded or limited under New Zealand law, including under the Consumer Guarantees Act 1993 and the Fair Trading Act 1986 where they apply to you as an individual user.
Changes to these terms
We may update these terms as the site evolves. Material changes will bump the "Last updated" date at the top of this page and be noted in our news feed. Continuing to use the site after a change means you accept the updated terms.
Governing law and jurisdiction
These terms are governed by New Zealand law. The New Zealand courts have non-exclusive jurisdiction over any dispute. Nothing here prevents you from bringing any proceeding to which you are entitled by law.
